Regular Poem: Controlled Burn

5 Dec

Refining by fire
testing a heart
by metaphorical heat
leaves one as silver
and able to reflect
(that’s when a refiner knows
silver is refined–
or so I’ve heard–
the impurities
and what’s left
is like a mirror,
and showing
something above.)

Metals refine,
but proteins
molecules stripped
and changed,
chemical makeup
from its natural state.

And that’s also the point,
isn’t it?
To free us of
our nature–
base and greedy,
wanton, ravenous–
to free us
from the furnace.

This metal–
or protein–
says ouch
for now
for later.

Beautifully said. It almost sings. I love that it ends on a hallelujah in the future.

Glad you enjoyed it! I’m tryna live a Romans 8:18 life although my success must be measured hour by hour. 😉
