Regular Poem: Classic Rock Collage

10 Apr

[A riff]
It’s a fanfare,
foreboding and foreshadowing,
alone and strong,
leading its regiment
with a square jaw,
melodic and rhythmic
and hinting.
Drums join,
and suddenly it’s a battalion.

[A wail]
From far away
a screeching tenor
laments you
and love and whiskey and school and capitalism.
He shrieks for us all
from a traincar a county over,
and it’s a battlecry.

[A riff]
The memory of it hasn’t even left,
and it’s back again,
renewed vigor, faster, louder, a dissonant harmony.
It had foretold of the wailing, and now
it partakes in the wailing.
It was the wailing before the wailing,
and it will be the wailing when
the wailing has ended.

I can’t get no
teacher leave those
in the sunshine of your
thunder only happens
on a horse with no
rock you like a
won’t get fooled
said the joker to the thief.

[A riff]
A countermelody now.
The stew has melded–
it’ll taste better reheated tomorrow–
but it stands out,
a singular spice.

[guitar solo or
bass solo or
theremin solo
a riff
a chorus]
