Regular Poem: The Blues Are Inefficient (A Song by The Borg Collective)

13 Apr

[1]
Got the blues, got the blues,
got the assimilation blues,
blue as I can be.
My baby left my starship,
and the collective’s comin’ for me.

[2]
I hate to see
(Hatred is irrelevant.)
that Borg cube roll in.
(“Roll” is imprecise.)

Oh, I hate to see
(Hatred is inefficient.)
that Borg cube roll in.
(“Fly” is more appropriate terminology.)

But since my baby left me
(It is improbable that your subunit has abandoned you.)
I just can’t seem to win.
(It is unclear to what game you are referring. Nevertheless, winning and losing are equally irrelevant.)

Got the blues, got the blues,
got the assimilation blues,
blue as I can be.
(Explain the significance of this hue.)
My baby left my starship,
and the collective’s comin’ for me.

[3]
Attention insignificant, “broken-hearted” individual.
Your biological, technological, and useless emotional distinctiveness
will be added to our own.
You will be assimilated.
Resistance is futile.

[4]
This drone has assimilated “the blues.”
This feeling is unacceptable.
This drone requires you to sever the hold you have on this drone
so that this drone may function at adequate levels.

This drone is no longer useful to the Collective.
This drone will begin drone destruction sequence 14-Gamma
so that this blues virus will not affect the Collective, for
resistance to the blues virus is futile.

Fantastically original, but sort of has me thinking about Marvin the depressed robot from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
    Brilliant poem.

Thanks! And thanks for reminding me that I need to read that book again because I do not remember your reference.
